Overlake Terrace raises $2831 for Komen

For the second year running at Overlake Terrace, an assisted living community in Redmond WA, a “Shave-a-Thon” event was held on October 8th at 1pm to raise donations for the Susan G Komen Charity. Five brave and willing individuals ( David Standring, Melahat Yagiz, Shabani Ramandani , Roberto Lauria , Jun Hizon) and their very gracious shaver, Nancy Chaney, came together to support a truly wonderful cause. For the event to take place in itself, it relied also on the support of the executive director Soher Bishai, the staff, people living at Overlake Terrace, their families, the parent company of Overlake Terrace - Bowen Property management (whom also gave a generous donation once again) , vendors for the community and the family of the originator of the event, David.
The inspiration for the event came from a personal loss experienced by David and his family in 2007. “My sister Ann was a truly remarkable and courageous lady. She never complained and was always a positive spirit in the life of her family and friends. After a ten year battle with Breast Cancer she passed away in 2007”.
In 2009, the idea for shave a thon event originated, and was a success and has proved to be another success again in 2010!! The event took place in two parts; First, the shaving of the five volunteers with a surprise; as when it came time for the only lady to have her hair cut, ( her original plan was to have it trimmed short ) she bravely changed her mind when she got into the “hot seat” and had all her hair shaved off!!!!! The second part involved David having wax strips sold off before and during the event to have his legs waxed!!!
By the time the event was at its end, an additional $ 367 had been raised bringing the total for the event to $2831.
