This morning around 10am this hummingbird took over the feeder out front and kept others away until almost 4:15 pm. I could get within 4 feet of him (her?) by noon. Survival of the fittest. We added two more feeders and he/she staked out those and ran off the other hummingbirds. I guess I need more feeders!

Hummingbirds do that. You need another feeder on the other side of the house, so this bird won't see the other bird.

It's most probably an Anna's. "Him" will be flashing his red head. "Her" -not so flashy. Feeders are an excellent idea to keep going year round. In our yard they use them more during the winter than the summer. Watch for freezing temps tho
