Winter in Moses Lake... usually that doesnt do too much to raise my heckles out here on the farm just west of town. The past 24 hours have changed my mind in a big way.
Yesterday morning while running errands, i heard the first news that we were expecting a blizzard. "A WHAT??" was my first thought, buti was scepticle. as the day progressed i noticed the snow began to fall and do to the bitter temperatures it stuck immediately. My wife and i knew something was up and headed home to take care of the animals.
When we arrived home there was already 3 inches of snow and the wind was beginning to blow somewhere around 10-15mph. We discovered that most of our animals had ducked into shelters and we helped the rest to find cover. Then it seemed all hell broke loose.
Suddenly the wind doubled in ferocity and the temperature plummeted. I watched my laptop closely as the weather deteriorated and the snow piled up. Eventually my eyelids protested to the point where i hit the sheets.
When i awoke this morning, i found that nothing had changed. the temperature was in the single digits and the windchill was 12 below zero with winds around 25 mph. i took stock of the snowdrifts and realized i was to be snowed in today.
i grabbed my digital camera and shot a movie of the wind howling between the house and the shop and the redish streak behind the mound of snow is a lifted dodge diesel pickup. NOT a good sign. i also snapped a few pictures for posterity.
So now im sitting in my living room and the time is 10:32 am with the blizzard warning supposedly over at 10 am but there is no change in the weather. When will it end??? La Nina, i gotta hand it to you... your taking this winter by storm.
