To start off, I don’t mean to sound like an NBA elitist, or assume to know more than any other NBA fan out there… But I love basketball.
Growing up watching Payton and Kemp go on fast breaks and just destroy other teams gave me adrenaline highs like I’ve never felt before, and looking back at past videos on Youtube give me goosebumps to this day. I watched my favorite team, the Seattle Sonics, beat the Lakers, beat the Heat, beat the Celtics, Beat the Magic, Beat every team imaginable until they went up against Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Steve Kerr, Kukoc, Harper, Longley, Grant, Armstrong, Phil Jackson, and the Leader of the team—Michael Jordan. They were so close to bringing World Championship glory to our hometown that it kills me to this day even thinking about the blood, sweat, and tears that our players, and our fans put into supporting that legacy. The SuperSonics Legacy, The Seattle Legacy, The State of Washington Legacy.
I was only in grade school back then, and now I’m much older, graduated from college, and still longing to see those hall of fame jerseys hanging up in our Arena. I want to see my favorite players receive the respect, and dedication that they gave us every time that they stepped onto the court. I want to see Ray Allen, Kemp, McMillan, Schrempf, Wilkens, Karl, Russell, Robertson, Williams, Sikma, Johnson, Shelton, Brown, Silas, and most of all, one of the biggest influences in my sports life—Gary Payton. As a city, as a state, and as fans of a proud legacy of basketball, we have the opportunity to bring back an NBA team to our communities and continue the proud winning tradition of our past All-Stars. Let’s come together… let it be known that the City of Seattle, no… The State of Washington wants our NBA Team back, and we will do everything we can to make it happen. Let’s bring back our Sonics.
