Maddie Poirier is a 17 year old girl in Tacoma, WA who spends the majority of her time helping out others. She volunteers at the Dream Center occasionally, which is where they make over 100 sandwiches on Saturday mornings and then go hand them out to the homeless in Federal Way. She volunteered at a daycare at her church. She is also an officer for Sparrow Club (a club at Stadium High School where they raise money for an adopted "sparrow"; this year, it's a 2 year old girl who has leukemia, and they're helping pay for her medical expenses) so she helps plan all of their fundraisers and community service projects that they do (example: She is planning a volunteer thing for Valentine's day; where they'll be going to help at a valentine's day dance for senior citizens at a retirement home). She volunteers at soup kitchens and food banks occasionally. She volunteers up to 10 hours a week at World Vision. Also, she is saving up money for a trip to Africa where she will be spending one month in South Africa working with refugees in squatter villages and one month in Zambia working at a summer camp for children who have lost their parents in the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The trip is about $5000, completely paid out of her wallet, and is completely non-profit. She is an amazing, hard-working, and generous person all around.
