Christina Turner: Seattle's Potential

Being born in Seattle and raised in the greater Seattle area, the Emerald City is literally apart of me. I grew up with my father taking me to Mariners and SuperSonics games, and my parent’s families live in Seattle. I was always thrilled when Dad would take us down to the waterfront or to Seattle Center where we could ride the amusement park rides. Since I was young I knew Seattle was home, and that I wanted to be a part of this community for the rest of my life.
Currently, I am a junior at Washington State University studying with the sincere hope to give back to my hometown and serve the community of Seattle in a special way. Even at Washington State University, contribute to the environment with my involvement in leadership. I am involved with the Associated Students of Washington State University and I give back to my temporary community by serving my students as a senator for ASWSU. This is just the first step in my personal growth and development. As I serve the WSU community and the Seattle community in the future, I hope to continue to develop into the woman I want to become.
Since I was a freshman in high school I have realized that I wanted to pursue a career in communications/journalism. I work earnestly because I want the opportunity to deliver the news to people of Seattle and inform them of what’s going on, especially because news directly affects everyone’s daily lives. I believe that I will be able to provide information accurately and with the passion and enthusiasm the viewers want and need. To be specific, I want to pursue a career in TV broadcasting to become a news anchor. My dream job would be to begin work at a local news station. Before becoming an anchor, I would like to be a reporter that goes to different story sites and tell viewers the stories of Washington residents. For years I’ve watched the faces of those on our local news stations with admiration and respect and vowed to myself that I too would give back in a similar way.
You see, every day Seattle viewers turn on their television sets and receive their news from their favorite news anchors and news reporters. Often times they become a favorite because of they way the person is able to connect with the audience. That is simply my goal. Soon I hope to serve the community of Seattle, by being able to tell the stories of our community members and for them to be able to turn to me an as ethical and reliable source. At the end of the day we all have a story to tell and I want to be the one sharing the stories with our beloved Emerald City. The beautiful Seattle skyline has been etched into who I am today, and I can’t wait for the day for it to be the backdrop to my future.
