North Kitsap) North Kitsap Fire and Rescue (NKFR) and Poulsbo Fire Department responded to a detached garage fire this evening just after 6 pm, near Suquamish. When crews arrived on scene, flames were coming through the roof and the south end of the building. Within minutes, the roof collapsed.
North Kitsap Fire and Rescue Lieutenant Ardyl Abrigo said, "With no nearby fire hydrants, we were fortunate to have such a quick response from both fire agencies. Our fire engine hooked up to Poulsbo's tender and there were multiple backup tenders." Poulsbo Fire's Safety Officer Bruce Peterson said, "There was quite a bit of arching and sparks coming from the electrical panel area of the south end of the garage and since it's a metal building, we had to use extra caution until the power was shut off."
No one was injured in the fire. Three vehicles; a 1961 Triumph TR3, a 1966 Volvo, and a 77 Chevy Pickup were lost in the fire. Two BMW Motorcycles, a lawn mower, electrical equipment and a small box of ammunition were also destroyed. The residence belongs to a 68 year old male and his 70 year old wife. The neighbor reported she heard an explosion and looked out her window to discover the smoke and flames coming from the roof of her neighbor's detached garage. The home owner is insured. Exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The Kitsap County Fire Marshal is investigating the scene.
