Our 3 muskateers!!!

Our first tenants!!

Our daughter built a birdbox a couple of years ago, and it just sat there empty! This spring we noticed a couple of Violet Green Swallows checking out the box. They decided to move in to our surprize, with the dogs laying in the yard close by! So all spring we watched our new tenants build their nest, soon you could hear little peeps when mom and dad would leave each day on their quest for food. We could tell that there were more than one, but until this picture, we wern't sure! Welcome our "Three Muskateers"!! Check out those lips, cute huh??

Make sure your bird boxes have between one and a fourth/one and a half inch in diameter entrance holes. Also, the boxes need to be cleaned out after nesting season each year. These birds will catch feathers you blow in air for nesting in May/June.

Swallows are just great birds. They are diminishing in number due to losing their homes to non-native (human introduced) house sparrows and starlings. I'm so glad you are providing housing for them!
