White Chuck and Rat Pass Roads Open Tomorrow for Use
Everett, Wash., Oct. 11, 2011—Road repairs re-opens White Chuck (FS Rd 23) and Rat Pass (FS Rd 27) in the Darrington Ranger District. These roads provide hiker and equestrian access to the Meadow Mountain and Crystal Lake Trails.
“The roads are safe for public use,” said Peter Forbes, district ranger. In addition, due to several years of inaccessibility, routine road maintenance has also been completed. “The roads connect to the Suiattle River Road (FS Rd 26) creating a scenic loop from the Mt. Loop Highway through the forest and out at Highway 530 just north of Darrington, Wash.,” he said.
The 2003 flooding caused washouts closing the White Chuck Road. Repairs were part of the Emergency Relief for Federally Owned Roads (ERFO) funding.
