An eagle tragically lost his life in an accident on the 520 bridge 3 months ago. Those who regularly crossed the bridge knew of the famous eagle, nicknamed Eddie, who would preside over the bridge’s travelers like a king looking over his kingdom. Because Eddie spent so many days gracing the bridges drivers with his majestic beauty, it only seemed logical to assume that it was him who lost his life this past August on the very bridge he spent so much of his time.
Yet, as I was crossing the bridge two weeks ago, I saw a familiar sight. Two bald eagles sat perched above the 520 bridge. Was it possible that it was not Eddie who was hit by the car that day? No matter what eagle was stuck, it was a tragedy all the same, but for me and many other travelers, Eddie holds a special place in our hearts. I truly believe that the birds I saw were Eddie and his companion, and I look forward to continuing to have Eddie presiding over me as I make my travels each day across our floating bridge.
