I would like to nominate a young man who worked this summer to raise money for a young boy he did not know. Porter was a patient at Children's Hospital going thru chemo and many surgeries. When Carson (the young man) heard about Porter he asked if he could set up a KoolAid stand to raise money for Porter's family. The stand was set up in Carson's driveway and the customers started coming. Once people found out that Carson was trying to help a family in need they donated what they could. One gentleman, on a motorcycle, paid for his KoolAid with a $100 bill and told Carson to put the change in the donation jar for Porter. On a day when I was at his house another gentleman pulled into the driveway and handed Carson $20's for Porter. In two weeks Carson had raised over $500 for Porter and family.
Once Porter was healthy enough to have visitors Carson went to Children's and met Porter and his Mom and Dad. He presented them with the money that had been in the jar. He wanted them to have the exact money that he had earned for them (all the pennies, 1's, 5's etc.).
Carson Skahan was six when he did his KoolAid stand for Porter. Now at the age of 7, Carson is at it again. This time he is raising money for "Relay for Life". He is selling baked goods, home made candy and handmade ornaments. Carson has enjoyed doing the fund raising to help others and wants to keep doing it. He can hardly wait for summer to come so he can start raising money for another cause or maybe another family.
Carson lives in Stanwood with his parents and younger brother and sister. He attends Cederhome Elemetary where he is in second grade and participates in the choir.
