Last summer I made a homemade hummingbird feeder but quit filling it at the end of summer. However recently I noticed a few hummingbirds flying around in the middle of winter. With no flowers to feed on I made up a fresh batch of hummingbird food and got it back out there...just in time for our big snow storm. Normally I boil one part sugar with four parts water, however to keep it from freezer I mixed one part sugar with three parts water. Our home is at the epicenter of the convergent zone here in western Washington. Our power was out for four days and the snow Twelve inches deep.

You can give them 1 part sugar to 2 parts water, this increases their calorie intake and make your feeder very popular too. These are Anna's hummingbirds. They started to winter over in our area years ago, mostly along the water but now spreading out
