Construction has begun on a 184-foot Eco-Friendly freezer-longliner commercial fishing vessel at J. M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corp. Expected to provide over 100 local jobs and take about a year to complete, the Northern Leader will be delivered to Alaskan Leader Fisheries for service as one of the largest and most technologically advanced ecosystem friendly fishing systems capable of an estimated capacity of 1,867,025 lbs of frozen seafood.
