Olympia High School "Turn your backs on hate" rally

Olympia High School WBC rally

Olympia High School was visited today by the Westboro Baptist Church. The student body worked hard all week to put together the "Turn Your Backs on Hate" rally that was held today. I think the words of the person who created the slogan for this event about sums it up, when asked how she came up with the design she said " I tried creating a design that could represent accurately what we are trying to demonstrate at the rally on Thursday. I thought about how to represent our community coming together- and came up with the current design. It shows how we are standing together on the side of love, not only as a school, but as an entire community. The design itself is simple. The race, gender, sexuality and religion of each individual is unknown. Together, the hands form a heart, which represents the love and acceptance in our community." It was an amazing rally today and I am proud of the way that Olympia High School student body acted today.

Wonderful to learn about the T-shirt design. It was so great to be there as a community member. I'm so glad the hard work of the students has been recognized as bringing people together!
