I haven't seen an aurora anything close to this since I lived in Alaska. The night started completely socked in, then eventually cleared completely. The Aurora at it's peak stretched approximately 100 degrees or more from west to east and the Auroral haze extended as high as Polaris. At about 0800Ut over a period of ten minutes or so, I saw some flashes that were similar to lightning or a discharge. I have no idea if there was weather to the North that would have caused it. I couldn't pass up the bolts shooting up from Mt. Tolman towards the Big Dipper. The evening was a gift. Exciting and beautiful. 1600 and 3200 ISO, 15 to 20 second exposures. Actually was so bright I was taking some shots at 400 ISO Lodoen Flats, Keller, Washington 0600 UT through 0830 UT on June 17th, 2012

I saw the lights from Lopez Island and it was a beautiful display at 1:42 am Sun June 17. After a heavy rain, the skies cleared, the stars were out and so were the lights. It was truly an amazing sight, with the green light reflecting off the water.
