Lightning lit up the skies all across the region Friday night and in Mason County, Steve Rosenow of Loowit Imaging set up an outpost to photograph the light show Mother Nature put on. An avid photographer who has seen all nature has to offer, he was eager to jump at the bit to take in this electrical spectacle.
"When I heard the forecasts call for lightning, the first thing I did was grabbed my Nikon and charged its batteries, then grabbed my memory cards," said Rosenow, who added that he has been waiting years to grab photos like this.
He then drove out to a vast clearing out on Mason Lake Road near Lake Limerick just outside Shelton, and set up his tripod on the backseat with the camera barely out the car's window. The following shots tell the story.
He added that a number of cars all lined up on the shoulder of the same stretch of road, to take in the spectacle. Lightning storms like this are rare, he adds, being a former KOMO weatherwatcher, and considers this a rare treat.
