Hwy 21 Keller to Republic 1

North Central Washington Wind Storm 7/20

July 20th about 3:30pm the power flickered and went out. I walked outside and looked up. Everything was going round and round, then the breeze picked up a little. It went from a breeze to a violent wind whipping everything in every direction in less than a minute. Then suddenly everything was horizontal in a northwesterly direction. It was so loud I didn't hear the trees crashing down around the house, taking out power lines and anything in their way. It was just noise. I was looking out the sliding door at the willows figuring it was a short count to launch. Still don't understand how they are still standing. The 60 foot trees on the other side of the house, about 10 inch to a foot diameter trees were bent over like grass in the wind. I still don't understand why they didn't snap. It was surreal. The only noise that stood out was the crash of the deck roof and part of the main roof peeling back and slamming into what was still there, with a blast of light. That was followed by a wall of water that found every seam and crack and poured into the house. Wow. I was in a hurricane in Louisiana in 74, offshore and onshore, this was more violent. Good thing it didn't last as long as the hurricane. These pictures were taken today on the hwy to Republic. Ferry County got hammered. We're lucky, got our power back today. A whole lot of people are still in the dark. The power crews are doing a fantastic job. Trees and power lines down everywhere, some on homes and vehicles.
