Local Swimmers Plunge Into Puget Sound

Marine Hills Swim and Tennis Club hosted its second annual Polar Bear Plunge at Redondo Beach on Saturday, March 15th. Brave young swimmers from the club’s Seattle Summer Swim League team took a dip in the frigid waters of Puget Sound to build team unity and excitement for their upcoming 2008 season. With the 46 degree temperatures, the event stayed true to its name.

Two dozen swimmers from the club’s 140 member team participated in the event. Prior to the plunge, several participants joined together for a one-mile jog from the Marine Hills Swim and Tennis Club down to Redondo beach to “warm up” for the event.

“We are lucky to have such a great group of young people and an inspiring level of commrodory among swimmers of all ages,” said Lynn Meyer, swim team coordinator and board member, Marine Hills Recreation Association. “This event is designed to bring the team together during the off season and build enthusiasm for our opening day which is less than two months away.”

In addition to the swim team, Marine Hills Swim and Tennis club has water polo and tennis teams and offers swimming and tennis lessons to children of all ages and ability levels. For more information, please visit www.marinehillspool.org or contact us at 253-839-4690.
