We have a 13 year old Emu, Frind, that has been alone for 8 years after his mate was attacked by a cougar. We noticed that he started building what looked liked a nest in the middle of his pen. He began laying on his nest (in the emu world, females just lay the eggs and the males do everything else) and wouldn't get up. When he finally did, my Dad thought he saw an egg...large green round shape. But it was not an egg... it was a green ball, about the same size and color of an emu egg. One of the kids had probably thrown it in there and his instincts took over. Frind has been incubating this ball for about a week now getting little sleep and small amounts of food and water. Poor thing! We would like to find a female companion for him. I would feel bad taking his "egg" away from him. He is such a good "dad."

That is so so sweet. You definately need to get him a new mate so he can be a real daddy.
