This was in the sky in Port Townsend, Friday evening around 4 or 5 PM or so, and not sure what it is, it was behind the mountains viewed from PT. Any ideas? Second photo shows paper mill with flare thing in background to show perspective.

Its a Chemtrail, not a contrail. Google "what in the world are they spraying?"

Well...nice try, but it's a NG burn-off stack, with a photoshop pasted reflection, a rather poorly done job. It covers up the building right below the stack. I'd say 2 or more pics layered over to create the sky effect.

Authoritatively, I have no idea what that is. Speculatively, I think that that could be an isolated noctilucent cloud. It looks like that. ASTRONOMY PICTURE OF THE DAY has one or more photos with discussions of these clouds. -Dwight, Renton, Wa.

I think it's a jet contrail from a higher altitude aircraft. The clouds that are darker are lower on the horizon than the aircraft during sunset. You seem to have seen the contrail at just the right moment when the sun was setting.
