Iron Weenie and Iron Owner

Iron Weenie

In anticipation of the Iron Man Movie coming out this weekend from Marvel, and a contest held by Toyfare Magazine, Iron Weenie was created! The contest was to build your own Iron Man costume. They never said you had to be the one to wear it. Iron Weenie is actually Maddie, our 8-year old miniature dachshund. Iron Weenie's armor is officially titled the "Iron Weenie Mark III," as we made 2 prototypes before ending up with our current canine costume. Coincidently, the main armor that Iron Man wears in the movie is the Mark III version of his armor. Pretty clever, eh?

The costume itself was rather simple and inexpensive to make. It was getting Maddie to wear it and sit still long enough for me to take a picture. Fortunately, my gracious wife, who has had Maddie since she was a puppy, served as the dog wrangler on the photoshoot. With her help (and plenty of doggy treats), we were able to get a few good pics of our powered-up pooch.

With the confidence that we had one of the more unique entries, we knew something would come of it. Though we didn't win with our canine-led effort, we did get an Honorable Mention for our endeavor. With our honorable mention, Iron Weenie has been featured in Toyfare Magazine, issue #130, on newsstands now. The issue was released in April, however it's dated the June 2008 issue. That's just how they roll at Wizard Entertainment, the publishers of Toyfare. You can also check out all the Iron Man Costume Contest Winners, including Iron Weenie, on their website.
