Ruby Dirks at Golden Gardens with sea glass heart

Sea Glass Hearts at Golden Gardens

On Valentine's Day, a Ballard resident brings sea glass hearts to throw into the Puget Sound. This year, the girls and I were lucky enough to run into him, at Golden Gardens, and were able to partake in the tradition. The hearts are thrown into the Sound with the hopes that beach-goers will eventually find them when the tide is out. It's a sweet and thoughtful gesture, in spirit of the holiday, that really brings the community together.

I do. Some people decided to make the hearts from recycled sea-glass and they throw them into the water on Valentines day.

I have recently found several glass hearts at Golden Gardens during extreme low tide, from late March until today - THey are beautiful and I feel so lucky to have found these...I would love to know where they came from

My father was in Seattle and they ran across people looking for the hearts on the beach. They started looking and have found quite a few that have ended from Anchorage to Dallas to Buffalo. Does anyone know the history behind this neat act?
