My 87-year-old mother's eyes light up whenever she tells the story of having paid a full $12 for an electric combination can opener and knife sharpener. Back around 1967 that was a lot of money to pay for such a thing! Had she gone overboard? Had she been taken? After getting 45 years (and counting) of regular use from this appliance, she has earned the right to remind her children on a regular basis about what a good buy she made all those years ago.
