In spring the Sol Duc River in Olympic National Park boasts wild steelhead leaping the Salmon Cascades waterfalls as they return to this river's cold, clean snowmelt and prime spawning areas. This amazing wild steelhead spectacle can be watched at the Salmon Cascades viewing platform in the Sol Duc River Valley. The Sol Duc River is now Washington State's first wild steelhead management zone — no more hatchery steelhead will be released into this river because the Sol Duc River has one of the largest, healthiest, naturally spawning wild steelhead populations in the state.
