Milky Way meet Aurora Borealis

[excerpts from my G+ stream]

Mt. Rainier, WA | The Milky Way meets The Aurora Borealis | Where were you?

It goes without saying, you can make the shot if you're not there. I thought this night would end miserably, as the mountain was socked in with clouds when I arrived around 9:00 PM. But, they were moving incredibly fast and I know from experience that the mountain can clear up nicely long after the sun has gone down. I wasn't disappointed!

What I find truly amazing about this photo is that I (we) managed to capture the Aurora Borealis. I did not know this was possible while aiming the camera to the south west. ? But, there it is. Go figure!
