Location: Wenberg State Park, Lake Goodwin, Marysville

A ski boat flipped over on Lake Goodwin on Wednesday around 4pm, when 6 college students were going a bit too fast for the lake’s conditions. “John” the owner of the boat said that he’d bought the boat the evening before and this was basically its maiden voyage. He stated they were going pretty fast when they hit a wake and the boat rolled over. All passengers were picked up by other boaters and the boat was towed into shore with a majority of the boat under water. The passengers were all shaken and walked away with only cuts and bruises. “John” will have two nice scars under both armpits where he hit the top of the glass windshield. Though they had life jackets on board, nobody had them on, and one girl stated that she didn’t know how to swim. They were very lucky. With the help of local bystanders and Wenberg state park rangers, the boat was pulled from the water with beach goers looking on.

Before being allowed to purchase a boat, it should be mandatory that one takes a Coast Guard approved class and pass, just as you do with driving a motor vehicle or motorcycle. These kids are EXTREMELY lucky! Not so smart, though.

THESE PEOPLE SHOULD BE WEARING HELMETS AND LICKING WINDOWS. "JOHN" WHO DOES NOT HAVE INSURANCE BY THE LOOK OF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF LETTING IT SINK AND NEVER BOATING AGAIN

Its not surprising that this happened to someone who didn’t know what they were doing on a boat. I grew up driving boats from the time I was 4 years old. One big thing I was always taught is never to hit a large wave/wake at an angle.

There should be a seperate license just for lakes and it should be just as hard to get as a car license since there are so many boats in a much smaller space when on a lake. I see idiots every weekend not following the lake counter clockwise rule.

There is a licensing program for boaters in most states, including washington... www.boat-ed.com/wa. The big thing they're missing is a practical exam or any experience requirement.

Way to go I see you don't need a college Education, But you think it would be helpful. Any one test the ^ wise college kids for alcohol?? Or were they just plain stupid? Throw in the hat boys give up in college you know your just there for the girls

Wouldn't the owner of the boat have a lot of guilt on his shoulders if his passengers would've been killed. Where is common sense, esp. for the passenger that doesn't know how to swim, you would think THEY would wear a life jacket!Safety first!!!

I used to live and ski on Goodwin 20 years ago, and it was a crowded lake then. It is a big lake, but it gets so many boats, the waves can become really huge, and that was before the age of wakeboard boats!
