Columbia River a Wanapum SP. River down about four feet. Will go down 16 more feet by next weekend.

Dropping of the Columbia at Wanapum

My husband I went to Vantage to see how the dropping of the Columbia River at Wanapum Dam was going as it is lowered to fix a crack in the dam. These images are only at about 4 feet lowered. 16 more feet will be lowered this next week. Boats that usually sat at docks were tied up in the middle of the river under the Vantage Bridge. We are hoping "old Vantage may be uncovered at the lowest level.

I am wondering how safe that dam will continue to be if we get an earthquake in that area? A 65 foot crack is nothing to ignore or forget about. That is the last thing we need is to have a massive dam failure on the Columbia.

I was down there today, the lake is down by about 12 feet with another 8 to go. Quite a sight, the old Vantage hwy had about 200' exposed now, you can still see the yellow strip down the middle.
