I took a road trip from Bellingham to So. California to deliver a car for a friend. On July 12th near Shasta Ca. I noticed 7 helicopters in a field on Old Oregon Trail road near the Wonderland Exit/I-5. After refueling the helicopters took off and traveled about 6 miles to fight the fires on the west and south side of Lake Shasta Dam. There appeared to be 5 seperate Forest Fires . The helicopter pilots and support crews were wearing Military clothing. Possibly a National Guard Detachment? Google Earth was very helpful in determining distances and elevations. The fires appeared to be in the 700-1300 foot elevation range. The temperature was about 105 degrees with very low humidity.
