A dry lightning storm over the Cascades and portions of Puget Sound were visible for miles early Sunday morning. In Shelton, former KOMO News Weather Watcher Steve Rosenow, who is from Shelton, aimed his camera's shutter towards the lightning off in the distance.
Rosenow, who served for 10 years as KOMO's Shelton-area evening weather watcher, is an avid photographer and had been scouting the lightning ever since the first flashes at around 2:30 in the morning. The lightning, fairly distant, was rather bright despite being so far away.
As a result of the lightning, the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag warning for the Cascades, alerting firefighters to an increased danger of new fires that could spring up as a result of new lightning strikes.
