Patriot's Day

(Poulsbo, Kitsap County) Poulsbo mayor, council members, police and fire chiefs, Kitsap County Sheriffs, American Legion Veterans, as well as several members of the community turned out in recognition of Patriot’s Day. The walk, which began at the Parks and Recreation Center and went through Downtown Poulsbo, honored those who perished in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and war veterans past and present. The “Freedom Walk” is one of three planned today in Washington State and several others nationwide.
Poulsbo Fire Department Chief Dan Olson said, “Over 3,000 people lost their lives that day, 3100 children lost their parents. It is important to remember that each one of those individuals lost had hopes and dreams of a future. Today we honor those by coming together. What was meant to divide us has actually made us stronger.” Police Chief Dennis Swiney said, “Today we honor those public servants who, at a moment’s notice, respond to calls for help and put themselves in potentially dangerous situations.”
