My family and I saw the same clouds up in North King County that night. I couldn't take my eyes off them having never seen anything even remotely similar. They looked sort of like huge jellyfish floating in the sky. Wish there was some explanation

We saw them too, in Gig Harbor... the sky was FULL of them! Very cool to see! I looked it up on-line and with a little bit of digging, I found they are called "jellyfish" clouds... caused by rain that is evaporating before it reaches the ground :-)

I live in Lynchburg Va one night I was looking out the upstairs window and I saw a jellyfish cloud. It was really exciting to see it. I'd like to know more about them.

They are "Verga" clouds. They produce rain that evaporates before it reaches the ground. Also tremendous downdrafts are associated with these type of clouds.
