the cap that says (do not open)

jiffy lube mess ups

i took my car to jiffy lube gig harbor about a week after i got my car for an oil change. they checked my fluids and changed the oil. i took my daughter to school the next morning, and after i dropped her off i went to mcdonalds drive thru. while i was waiting i noticed my temp gauge was maxed out hot. i parked and opened my hood. to my suprise the resavoir cap was off and there was no water in my engine. the ccap they took off plainly states do not open. there is even a picture on it that shows that your not supposed to take it off. i called jiffy lube and they came out to me with water. we filled it up and i went back to jiffy lube gig harbor. they made sure that it was full. i went home and looked over my engine and found that they had said all my fluids where right where they were supposed to be, but my transmission fluid was over full, and my brake fluid was extra low. my car seems to have been running hotter then when i first got it, i called it in to have it checked out. they sent me to all transmissions and the mechanic basicly opened the hood and looked at it. the mechanic said it looked fine. so a few months later my car started to act up. i called the jiffy lube corp line and asked to speak to some one again. so they sent me back to all transmissions and they looked it over again, and ran a diagnostic test. it came back that multiple sensors have gone out ( temp sensor, egr valve, and knock sensor) all transmissions stated that jiffy lube was not at fault and that i had to pay $2000 to fix it. i drove to my fathers mechanic in port orchard and explained what had happened. he is a ase master mechanic and he stated that a sever over heating will make sensors go out and that things will keep going out. he stated i would need a whole new engine and that jiffy lube is totaly at fault. i called jiffy lube back and requested that my car be taken to a mazda dealership to determine that they are at fault. they refused to pay to take it to the dealership and stated they wanted to bring in an "independent investagator" . i have an appointment tommorow morning with him. but i have a feeling that he will also state that jiffy lube is not at fault. it is my familys only car and i can not afford to fix it.

Jiffy Lube in Fife. Poor quality and lack of attention to detail. Greasy fingerprints on the gear selector, cabin interior, and steering wheel, and not filling oil level completely full. Better service can be found elsewhere.

learn to change your own oil and grow up . there is more important things in life than complaining

Jiffy Lube Employee says ... on Sunday, Mar 22 at 6:21 AM

What amazes me here is this" my car NEVER had a problem till Jiffy Lube worked on it" BS! Every day we fight with folks like this and all they want is to get money! Whats wrong is this if I complain it should be free mentality. Grow up Liars!

Went to Jiffy Lube on Northgate today - they forgot to replace my oil pan cap. My car was completely drained of oil!!! They said it was full, I paid and drove away. I only made it a mile and my car expired. I am extremely disappointed with Jiffy Lube

The cap you are referring to in the picture is on the expansion tank. The cooling system fill is located where the upper radiator hose attaches to the engine.

Clarence says ... on Wednesday, Oct 15 at 12:29 PM

Removing the radiator cap will not damage the cooling system. The cap says to not remove it while the engine is hot to avoid burns. The cap is spring loaded at a set PSI to allow for expansion of the coolant and release of trapped air.

It dosen't take alot of mechanical skills to change oil. In fact, its easier than changing a tire. Some people they hire DO know what they're doing, and some cars are just prone to breaking down. Change your own oil and you'll have nobody to blame.

Thunder says ... on Monday, Oct 13 at 4:06 PM

This is a problem with any of these lube specialist places. they hire young employee's with no michanicle skills. they inadiquatly train them.give them there own corporate certification. im surprised they don't post "at your own risk" good luck

I'm a Jiffy lube employee says ... on Monday, Oct 13 at 8:37 AM

I'm paid 8.25/hr and barely getting 25 hrs a week. It's no wonder there isn't much employee morale. If you really want to stick it to them, learn to maintain your car on your own. Oil changes aren't tough. I'm the only one who wrenches on my cars.

Went to Wal Mart in Bellingham for oil change. I went home and then looked at my bill, I then noticed it said I was given 7 qts of oil, my car holds only 5 qts I checked my oil stick it was overflowing.Oil was changed, a little later engine blew.

mike_in_Tacoma says ... on Saturday, Oct 11 at 11:35 PM

I also refuse to take my cars there. They can not follow simple instructions.....I will state to them all I want is an oil change and nothing else and sure enough they will come back to me and try to sell me something else.

Tech From NC says ... on Friday, Oct 10 at 2:04 PM

Watch for cracks in the engine block Noname, I see them in several engines from wrecked cars. The idea is the keep the passenger compartment safe and everything else crushes. I put foot powder on the sides of the engine and leaks will leave a trail.

Auto Tech from NC says ... on Friday, Oct 10 at 1:53 PM

Jiffy Lube's problem is haste, take an extra 10 min and do the job right. In my opinion, once the cooling system has been opened air bubbles accumulate and the system must be bled If the sensors sit in a bubble of air, they dry out and can be damaged

Clarence says ... on Thursday, Oct 9 at 5:33 AM

Never let the kids at JL or any other quick oil change place touch your air filter. They have a habit of removing the air filter, dumping all sorts of dirt and grime into the air box, just to show you it "needs replaced."

Marles says ... on Wednesday, Oct 8 at 9:31 PM

4 EVERY1!!! Always ask to see shop techs creds(certifacations). If the bizz is honorable they will be proud to show them. NEVER!!! take ur rig to JL, PT, or any other lube place. they are backyard grease monkeys. PS: 28yrs 17creds I have, i know!

Tim says ... on Tuesday, Oct 7 at 11:08 PM

I took my 08 Jeep to a JL Marysville. It has since closed. They wanted to replace all kinds of fluids and wiper blades. The vehicle had about 16,000 miles at the time. I'm done with JL and will feel better about changing it myself.

Jiffy Lube is like this nationwide - ripoffs take place on a systemic basis, they particularly charge for services not delivered. Anyway, overheating can easily warp cylinder heads and engine blocks.

larry says ... on Sunday, Oct 5 at 9:22 PM

Jiffy Lube is a come on and no more. They keep a can of watered down grease in the pit and then smear some on a white card and tell you that your rear end needs a $69.99 flush. Had services mine only a week before. I change my own oil, no mistakes.

Hobbs says ... on Sunday, Oct 5 at 8:02 PM

I had an incident with them but they fixed and paid for it. I kept going to them in Mill Creek until they got a new manager that started charging me $20 more for an oil change. I get my oil at Costco now and went back to changing my own oil again.

Arnie says ... on Sunday, Oct 5 at 12:55 PM

Jiffy Lube's in the south end seem to have done okay by me. About the only thing that has happened is they stripped out the drain plug which they fixed the next visit (and charged me). Others besides Jiffy Lube make mistakes like this too.

No Name says ... on Sunday, Oct 5 at 9:12 AM

But are putting in a used engine they found from a wrecked car in Texas. This voids my Kia long time warranty. Jiffy Lube says they will now be the warranty for the same time. This is going to be a nightmare to own.

No Name says ... on Sunday, Oct 5 at 9:10 AM

Took my 07 Sorento for an oil change. Within 2000 miles drain plug fell out. had car towed to Kia dealer and was told motor is bad due to no oil. called Jiffy Lube and they took a long time to come out and inspect. They finally agreed to pay.

POCALOCA says ... on Saturday, Oct 4 at 8:06 AM

The exact thing happened to me in Seattle Jiffy Lube. My car ran perfectly fine for over 15 years until I took it to them then the exact same thing happened. I have not driven it as I have been told it would take $2400.00 to fix the engine.

Me says ... on Saturday, Oct 4 at 7:55 AM

Been there twice. both time, something has happen to my car AFTER leaving them. 1. Alternator went out, Brake fluid not filled. 2. Hood Latch broken, engine smoking now. (can not open the hood to see whats going on) I'm not going back to them.

John Rolls says ... on Saturday, Oct 4 at 7:13 AM

Had car serviced, dont drive it much, second car .weeks latter discovered drain bolt loose and new filter not tight.

mopar man says ... on Friday, Oct 3 at 11:46 PM

Jiffy Lube is one of the worst places to go. we have to fix all the things they mess up. i would never take my car. All they should be allowed to do is oil, and sometimes they can't do that right eather.

7darlene says ... on Friday, Oct 3 at 1:59 PM

My mother had taken her car in, and when she got home, NO OIL!! they didn't do their job, and also stripped the oil cap. I have taken my van in, and they messed it up so it over heated. Took it back several times. NO MORE!

Seifkar says ... on Friday, Oct 3 at 1:24 PM

Not every Jiffy Lube is a terrible experience. Yes, there are some bad employees out there but every place has bad employees. I have had very good experiences in Ballard and on Holman Road in North Seattle.

Willy says ... on Friday, Oct 3 at 10:13 AM

After having the check engine and low oil lights come on the day after a Jiffy Lube oil change, I discovered the (new) oil filter had not been properly snugged down. I've had several problems with Jiffy Lube, NO MORE!

Jetmaster says ... on Thursday, Oct 2 at 6:46 PM

If they were at fault, (very unlikely), the most they would owe, would be the value of the old motor, not the cost of the new one. You also have responsibility to check the fluids in your car yourself, especially after any service.

JeffyJoeBob says ... on Thursday, Oct 2 at 10:58 AM

I'm sympathetic, but if you spent a little extra and took it to a real mechanic, you would have saved yourself the headache. When I say "real mechanic", I don't mean the local stealership where the techs are fresh out of school. Dealerships sell cars

PAC says ... on Thursday, Oct 2 at 7:59 AM

Jiffy Lube - all over in Kitsap County need to STOP adding extra things that are not necessary and READ labels on ALL engine parts. I used to go there, BUT; no more, I've lost faith in their lack of experience, dishonesty.

Steve Bartel says ... on Thursday, Oct 2 at 12:02 AM

JiffyLube...the one here in Port Orchard...by FredMeyer is where I used to go.Seems they have this habit of adding all sorts of various items to pump up the bill, things that are not necessary for the car...higher priced oils etc. ...than standard

Justin says ... on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 9:34 PM

I refuse to go to Jiffy Lube, I go in for an oil change and they try to tell me all my fluids need to be replaced, so I take it to grease monkey and they tell me everything is good to go after i told Jiffy Lube No thanks. (6000miles later)

Scott says ... on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 8:53 PM

As a professional automotive tech for 45 years, you can do serious damage to today's car by overheating it a little bit. Yours sounds like it overheated a lot. Not only can you damage sensors, you can do damage to cylinder heads and gaskets and more

Kate says ... on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 1:37 PM

Don't be surprised if the independent investigator tells you your engine doesn't need to be replaced. Overheating does not mean an engine has to be replaced. Were all the sensors working when you bought it? Is it new? Used?

Cheri says ... on Wednesday, Oct 1 at 1:33 PM

We have had the same problems with Jiffy Lube. Our transmission service turned into a $1200.00 bill. Will not trust nor use them again.
