(Poulsbo, Kitsap County) Poulsbo Fire Department and Navy Region Northwest Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team responded to a hazardous materials call at the North Kitsap High School this afternoon shortly before 3pm. Upon arrival, fire crews were informed by school district employees that there were chemicals in the outside storage area which were scheduled to be disposed of this last summer. Water had come in contact with some of the chemicals, causing a reaction. The school district was able to provide the fire department with a list of chemicals in the storage area. The situation was mitigated in about two hours and there were no reported injuries. According to Battalion Chief Russell “The Hazardous Materials Team took their time to be sure the situation was resolved safely and without incident.”
