The Train

Train vs. Car

It doesn’t take a PhD. or a degree in rocket science to guesstimate the outcome of a game of tag between a 100 ton Amtrak train travelling at 50+ mph and a small Mitsubishi sports car sneaking under the arms of the crossing guards. These photos were taken Dec. 15th, 2008 at 10:30 am in Marysville, WA. This busy intersection is located just East of I-5 where 88th Street and State Ave meet. State Ave (Old 99) parallel the train tracks for several miles, and has been scene of two accidents involving motor vehicles and trains in the past year.

It is ultimately the motorists responsibility to control his vehicle and operate it in a safe manner.

It doesen't matter who reported what, the fact is that a operator of a motor vehicle allowed his vehicle to be in the path of an oncoming train. Just 4 feet of clearance is all that is needed from each rail to avoid a collision.

The stories that the news are reporting are totally wrong. Obviously MisBeth & SusieQ are not too bright themselves to believe everything reported. That being the case, Elvis is still with us

To all those who made the above nasty comments on the driver, you do not know the true facts. Every news cast had a different story of what happened. He did not have passengers in his car, nor was he an idiot to attempt to out run a speeding train.

There seems to be quite a few "geniuses" in this world who think they can break the law, get away with it, then blame the accident on the railroad companies!

This genius should be nominated for a Darwin award. He stupidly went under a crossing arm and then disrupted the travels of not only the passengers, but those trying get around Marysvillle. I wonder where he needed to go so badly to take on a train.
