The predicted Dec 20, 2008 storm went through Gig Harbor last night. Instead of the wild wind that was expected, Gig Harbor, and the suburb of Arletta, was calm. The storm started at about 3:30 pm, Saturday afternoon, with small flakes. By 5:30, the snow was falling heavily. The flakes easily accumulated, as the grouned remained frozen from the previous 4 days of below freezing temperature. By Sunday morning, at least 8 inches of new snow have fallen. A winter wonderland awaits any who dares to enjoy the scenery!

One of the wonders in Arletta is this Gig Harbor yard. It is a known hot-spot for the wild. During the summer, this yard is enjoyed by many -- birds and deer, in particular. Strawberries and fresh shoots of new growth from the vegetable garden are a huge draw!

During the winter, 4 apple-laden trees supply snacks for the needy. Wind gusts (and an ocassional shaking by the owner) make sure that adequate number of apples are on the ground for the visitors. The sight of the animals are enjoyed by the owner, and the owner's 4 grandchildren!
