In Brier since last Wednesday, we have dug out our steep driveway 6 times. We are really getting tired of this ... where is the rain? We continue to thaw out the hummingbird feeder every hour to feed the little guys and clean off the bird feeders so the squirrels and birds can get to the black sunflower seeds we always have available. We feed 3 stray kitties and have built a covered cat fort out of lawn furniture, 6 mil black plastic, and lots of horse blankets so they can get out of the snow & get to food & water. We live above a little lake in the city limits of Brier bordering a wetlands and we feed the local coyotes that live on 75 acres of woods that belong to the Abbey View Cemetery in Brier (we throw leftovers over our fence & they come out when we whistle). Since feeding them, there are less cats missing in the neighborhood. We figure they were living here long before the houses were built in our neighborhood. The food chain is well and active in our neighborhood and consequently we have less rats & mice. There is a reason Mother Nature has predators in the ecosystem. The lake we look out to has turtles, bass, trout, otters, ospreys, kingfishers, herons, bald eagles ... you name it. It is a beautiful place to live and watch the wildlife.
