Hi, my name is Bill Thornton and I live in Port Orchard. I have lived here since 1979 and seen many snows. I consider my self to be an observant outdoorsman, and have seen many strange things in my travels. But on Christmas day morning this year I noticed something very interesting that I have never seen here before. When I went outside to take my dog out I started noticing what looked like little pieces of yellow string, all about 1 to 1 1/2 inches long, all over the top of the snow in the back yard. As I looked closer I could see they were very thin yellow worms, crawling out of the snow. The more I looked the more I saw. There were hundreds of them all over the snow squirming around. As the morning turned to afternoon, they began going back down into the snow till there were only a few visible. I started looking other places around the local neighborhood and could see they were everywhere. So I started searching the internet for any info. on the worms and couldn’t find a thing that comes close. Intrigued by the little mysterious worms, I started sharing my find with family and friends. I have now discovered them in 2 other locations here in Port Orchard, so its not an isolated incident. And I keep thinking I cant be the only one who has seen these things. Maybe you can help me to figure out where they came from, and what kind of worms they are. Like I said they are 1 to 1 1/2 " long, very thin, and the very tip of the head is white. They seem to be sensitive to the light, and are less active as it warms up. I don’t see many in the evening, but theres lots of them in the morning. I have enclosed 2 photos to show you what they look like. I have never seen these things before, so they cant be common here. If anyone there still has snow in their yard, have them look real close for them, maybe they will see them. I know its not front page news, but it is quite interesting don’t you think?
