The worst flood I've seen in forty years

We get massive amounts of snow and some floods here between Cle Elum and Easton but It's hard to believe what has happened the last week! All together we have had about 5 feet of snow here already this year. Combined with the monsoon like rains and warm temps. disaster hit I'm sure 100's of homes and businesses in the Kittitas valley. Rain and melting snow raged down streets near Cle Elum, Roslyn, and Ronald (and probably elsewhere) with nowhere to go because of the walls of snow on either side. That is until it found driveways to flow down into homes, barns and garages. Rivers and small steams near Easton and Ellensburg became huge and flowed into areas I've never seem them reach in the 40 years I've been in the area. One church in Roslyn washed off it's foundation. Another in Cle Elum had to have big ditches dug into it's yard and sidewalk to save it from damage. We went to Ellensburg on Wednesday and were amazed by the flooding to homes and businesses there as the raging Yakima river and local streams spread across sections of the town. I heard that there were worries about the levy protecting the Downtown area. Even my sister living on a high hill discovered water mixed with mud running through their garage. There was much damage but many stories of people helping one another. We are glad to see dryer days ahead! (photo used with permission)
