fans injured by monster truck

This is the video of the monster truck run in the Tacoma dome Friday night January 16th. At the end of the run you can see the parts blow off of the truck and see them on the ground. While all of this was happening there was no pause in the action the show just kept going on as planned.

We was at the AMP monster truck in Iowa this past weekend and they were having go cart races. Well they didn't move a monster truck out of the way and a little boy slammed into one and broke both his legs. They had NO EMT or ambulance service on site

I am a close friend of the family of the driver .the driver and his family are just devastated. He is 23 years old. This is something that will affect him for the rest of his life. Are prayers go out to the family of the child.

David says ... on Friday, Jan 30 at 10:27 AM

I guess that getting stuck on the yellow car at 1:08 sec damages the drive train. Truck then does a sharp turn in the lower right corner of the arena and it appears that something black falls on the ground. When it stops, truck leans to right.

mr. usa says ... on Wednesday, Jan 28 at 5:29 PM

it was varry sad the boy died , but to stop the show meant people are sheep and would cause panic and flood the doors , making it unsafe for emergency crews to help the boy and get him out safe , face it people in masses are panic stricken

The announcer died from his injuries. He apparently walked out infront of a truck returning to it's parking space. Channel3000.com also has more info

what is this video about? I dont see no accident...

Larry says ... on Friday, Jan 23 at 3:46 PM

Cowboy, this was the run that caused the death. The report of the truck doing doughnuts is incorrect. The dirt was too tacky for most of the trucks to try to do any doughnuts. The problem is when "Natural High" gets hung up on the yellow junked car.

Michele says ... on Friday, Jan 23 at 11:44 AM

This is very sad, I cannot imagine what the family is going thru. The warning on the back of the ticket is on the back of every ticket (cannot blame anybody). What If a baseball went and hit somebody and they died should we never pay baseball again?

Get Real says ... on Friday, Jan 23 at 9:07 AM

IM sad & pray 4 this family 4 their loss, but the ignorance perpetuating from this blog is unreal. This was a TERRIBLE ACCIDENT people! The mentality that 'someone must pay' 4 this tragedy is absurd&fundemental to our downwardspiraling society.

Teri says ... on Friday, Jan 23 at 6:40 AM

I feel so bad for the family. I think the family should sue. Freak accident or not, the Truck show should have had more stringent safety measures in place. These people know that parts can fly off the vehicles and land anywhere.

Anonymous says ... on Thursday, Jan 22 at 7:48 PM

I've been to a lot of shows since I was about the kid's age. They take every precaution to ensure everyone is safe. This was just a freak accident, but it's completely understandable that the family as well as the public are mad. Apology at ushra.com

2nd tragedy here is the fact that this has become a place for idealists to attach themselves to glorify their ignorance.Ya'll are spouting off over things you know nothing about. The truck was safe and the driver and team did nothing wrong.

dizzy says ... on Wednesday, Jan 21 at 10:00 PM

As for safety, they have safety holds, the yellow plastic around the venue, 30 yard dumpsters, safety tecs, that look at the trucks befor the show, safety officals on the floor when the trucks are running and remote R.I.I's that shut them off.

They did the right thing by continuing the show. If they had stopped, thousands would have got up and went to the bathroom and the snack bar. By keeping the crowd in their seats they made emergency workers' jobs much easier.

Kmerritt says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 8:10 PM

I am really confused by the people who would even justify the truck show at this point.....the fact is that they did not have the common sense or compassion to apologize or show remorse for the loss of a six year old "fan".

Tracy from NC says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 8:01 PM

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. Accidents happen regardless of how safe we try to make things. Sueing or placing blame is not going to bring this child back. However I feel that stopping the show would have shown a bit of compassion.

Krysydawn says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 7:29 PM

Very sad. This should have never happened. But I do agree that this is very rare. The first time in the companies 25yrs actually. We said our prayers before attending last nights (1.17.09) show. Our prayers to the family, driver and event staff.

Real Cyn says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 5:40 PM

I do stop and think before I take my children. Hence why we sit far up and not down in the front rows. As with any sporting event or theme park, there can be accidents. I do feel bad for the family....

Monster Truck Fan says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 3:40 PM

I'm sadden by the death of this young boy. We have 4 children and I have been to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta 11 time to watch these shows. My children love the shows. My God with this family.

jeff says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 3:26 PM

We are all very disturbed and saddened any time something like this occurs. Imagine how the driver feels. The chances of your child being injured in your own car on the way to or from a Monster Truck show are much higher. A tragedy pure and simple

Jake says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 3:07 PM

Lawsuit? NO. Its a horrible accident and accidents happen, it's no reason to go chasing after money (except maybe funeral costs). My condolances to the family, I cant even imagine. How ever, money does not replace life. Nobody wanted this to happen

Andrew says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 2:30 PM

By keeping the show going, the majority of patrons remain in their seats, leaving the incident site clear. These events are not without risk, all we can do is minimise that risk - it can't be eliminated completely. Thought are with the families.

Prior Service says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 2:02 PM

Condolences to the family and anyone who witnessed this. May the family find peace and strength. It was an accident, but it doesn't make it any easier. I've taken my son to two MJ's wtih no problems or injuries. Again, srry for the familys loss.

sad father says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 11:28 AM

Lets get real people, do you think that the promoters of the event or the drivers of the truck expected this to happen? It is human nature to learn valuable lessons at the cost of someones life. Life is full of risks that we CHOOSE to take.

k says says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 11:02 AM

what is more upsetting is that the show went on without a break at least! out of respect for the family. Show promoters says "we've never had something like this happen before" well, there's a first time for everything. Condolences to the family.

news reader says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 11:00 AM

there is a disclaimer on the back of the tickets for this reason. It is unfortunate, but it is like going to a hockey game, baseball game, going on amusement park rides and such. People simply think it's not going to happen to them.

parminder gill says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 10:07 AM

It is unfortunate the young boy has to loose his life for the sake of adventertious monster truck

Roy says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 9:43 AM

People take their children to these shows to share the chaos, noise, danger and destruction that these shows offer. When danger and destruction move over the barricades, everyone is shocked and angered. These shows offer nothing positive to kids...

Where's compassion gone says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 9:26 AM

Everyone who likes to debate this needs to stop and think. If that was your brother or son, then how would you feel. That was someones brother, someones son. Stop. Think.

Jim says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 8:23 AM

Surely people realize that injuries at any type of event are a possibility. I've been to hockey games and seen people get hit with flying pucks. How about sitting close to the baseball diamond and having a foul ball come at you at over 100mph?

Mark says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 8:17 AM

There can be no pain worse than this. My condolances to the family. I'm sorry for your terrible loss.

Glenn says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 6:50 AM

A disclaimer on a ticket does not free participants from all liability. I guarantee you multiple entities involved in these events carry tons of insurance. Can you guess why? See sentence 1.

Mary says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 6:18 AM

I think its a no win situation no matter how you look at it. If they closed the show people would be complaining that they got screwed out of the show they paid for. It's so devastating kids have died at theme parks as well. Very sad for the family

msvickybee says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 2:06 AM

I'm sickened by this story. This poor family must be devastated. That poor little kid. Awful! I think it's in really, really poor taste that the show organizers are acting so incredibly indifferent. Not stopping the show. I hope they get sued.

Tony says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 1:45 AM

Its sad that somebody died, but Im sure the back of the tickets states that attending these events are dangerous and they are not liable. Everybody wants to sue somebody.

Kyle Carlson says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 12:59 AM

Spit & chewing gum.....no safety guidelines......Obviously you don't know much about monster trucks. This was a freak accident. Monster Jam events are one of the safest shows out there. Get your facts straight b4 you talk.

algermom says ... on Sunday, Jan 18 at 12:23 AM

If this was one of the organizers' kids, or one of the drivers' kids, or the Tacoma Dome staff's kids, would there still be the amount of depraved indifference toward the victim's family? And would the show still go on? This is an incredible tragedy.

graham in graham says ... on Saturday, Jan 17 at 11:32 PM

on every event ticket I have ever purchased there has been a disclaimer for exactly this reason. there is an element of danger which makes this exciting to watch, you must be willing to take a chance. those parents did and it didnt pay off

These crates are held together with spit, and chewing gum. I see no competition here other than who makes the biggest mess. There are no safety guidelines in place for this junk on 4 wheels. Sad for the loss of a little boy for the sake of profit.
