M42 Orion Nebula

Orion on a somewhat clear night

Orion Nebula from my backyard observatory. One somewhat clear, but unstable night. Humidity was about 94%, fog down the hill and starting to fog when I quit around midnight.
Telescope - Orion 80ED
Camera - Canon 350D
Guiding - Meade 12" Lx200 with Meade DSI
Exposures - 20 - between30 seconds and 3 minutes at ISO 800

The photo was taken with an Orion 80ED refractor scope (about $500). I was using the 12" Meade for guiding, a bit of overkill, but the Orion piggybacks on the big guy. Anyone can do this, just need a halfway decent scope, and a lot of patience! :-)

Great photo! A 12" Meade is a lot of telescope to haul around - do you have it in backyard observatory?

This is amazing... I wish that I could see something like that sometime!! I really need a camera like that so that if I ever see something that cool then I can take a picture to show to my future kids

This is really neat, is this some type of telescope the average homeowner can obtain and use?
