A forty foot long gray whale was discovered by whale watchers on Sunday at Noon. The whale had only recently died as evidence of the blood still streaming from its mouth.
The body was found floating a few hundred yards off shore of Camano Island on the Saratoga Passage. Coast Guard was notified and we were instructed to take photos of the fin and other body markings for subsequent indentification

It is a little more than upsetting to see these beautiful animals dead and w/o knowing the cause. I just hope the environmental agencies look deep into this issue. These animals in our waters are important to monitor.They are the canary of our time
If fresh blood is coming out of the mouth it is most likely a boat that killed this poor creature.
christine,I think your right .these animals need alot of monitoring.they were here first,so lets keep them healthy.
Whales sometimes die natural deaths. Grey whales are not particlularly the canary of our time. They have multiplied significantly in the thirty some years I have spent in the waters off our Pacific coast. That said, they do deserve our respect.
