This is Dig Deep's Progress so far.

Dig Deep's Walk for Water

Dig Deep started in May of 2008 and it is a project that aims to provide underpriviliged communities across the world with water systems, latrines, and hygiene education. Our first goal is to raise $10,000 to build 12 public water tap stands in rural Ethiopia. We will give the $10,000 to Water 1st International. To learn more about Water 1st, a nonprofit based in Seattle, please visit Make sure to check out their Ethiopia projects! To earn this money, we have been selling merchandise with our Dig Deep logo on it. We also earn money with many exciting fundraisers and a yearly Extravaganza. We recieved the funding to start our project through Youth Venture, an organization that helps out young people like us who want to change the world!

Our names are Madeleine and Grace and we live in Bellevue (near Seattle), Washington, and attend The Overlake School. Last year in Social Studies class, we learned about world problems, ranging from global warming to immigration to poverty. We wanted to take action and felt most passionate about the fact that so many people are deprived of clean, accessible water. So we made a plan, and submitted it to Youth Venture through the Go Overboard challenge grant. We then presented in front of a selection panel and recieved a grant of $1,000 to start out this project!

Dig Deep Walk for Water 09
When: May 22nd, 4-8 PM

Where: Farrel McWhirter Park in Redmond, WA

This event will start at 4:00 on Friday, May 22nd. We will start out by everyone coming in and hanging out until the walk starts at 5:00. Participants will follow a route around the park. Each person will carry large amounts of water using fabric wraps provided. There will be large containers for the adults, and then milk cartons and small pails for younger children. This will help everyone understand that this is what Ethiopian women do up to three times a day, every day. After the walk, everyone will enjoy a barbeque and there will be face painting, games, live music and opportunities to buy Dig Deep merchandise. The event will end around 8:00 PM.
Everyone is welcome!
See you there!

Admission is $5 and an All-You-Can-Eat ticket is also $5. Dig Deep plans to sell these tickets at The Overlake School and you can also pay the day of.
