Possible flare

4Th of July Surprise in the sky

Shape: Fireball,Oval,Sphere
Description: I was watching the neighborhood fireworks in my backyard with my kids and at approxiametely 22:15 I saw an orange orb of light coming from the west side of town. It looked about 1000ft or so in the air and seemed to be floating in an easterly direction. The orange ball of light lasted for about 3 minutes and then disappeared. Both of my kids and I witnessed this event. Then in the east side of town, two more orange orbs of light about the same height appeared in the sky and were headed west and seemed to be floating. At first I thought it was a meteor shower but after seeing 7 of these lights total within an hour, I concluded that they may have been flares but not 100% sure. Each time the orange orbs of light disappeared in about 3 to 5 minutes.

I saw 3 of the orange--fire like balls-- it was during the fireworks in Clio Mi. just north of Flint. they were going in the same direction and just disappeared.....

Marge says ... on Tuesday, Jul 5 at 10:28 AM

What we saw were wedge shaped, and yellow orange. A few flew, in what appeared to be, formation, than a few just seemed to follow the rest. They never went out, just flew out of view. They moved from south to east. We are in Western Pa.

We saw them the south sky in Puyallup on July 10 around 10:20pm. There were 7 small orange lights,6 in a cirle and 1 off to the side. It was silent and they each disappeard 1 by 1.I thought it was pretty cool and am curious to know what it was.

Jessica says ... on Monday, Jul 13 at 6:15 PM

I also saw about 3 of them around 10:20 P.M. in Tacoma on the 4th. It was pretty....nice I guess. It only stayed for about 2-3 minutes.

marcia says ... on Monday, Jul 13 at 12:23 PM

We live in the Chicago area... have seen these strange lights for a couple of years... and multiple times during the week. looks like a small hot air ballon ( too small for a man to ride in) 15 of us saw 7 on the 4th of July But no one can id.

Danielle says ... on Sunday, Jul 12 at 10:50 AM

We were having a party on the 4th and everyone noticed the big orange glow coming from the west and heading east as it burned out. If it is a sky lantern you have to admit it is pretty cool for so many people to be able to see.

DaveS says ... on Sunday, Jul 12 at 9:50 AM

Saw them in groups of three floating over Macomb Township the last two nights (7/11 and 7/12) around 11:30 -12:00. Why has this not been reported in the news?

Gettysburg says ... on Sunday, Jul 12 at 8:37 AM

Do fire lanterns fly? says ... on Friday, Jul 10 at 4:12 PM

Ok, so I keep hearing about fire lanterns...unless fire lanterns fly across the sky horizontally for several miles, in formation, and are larger than at least a Volkswagon, then they were UFOs...(unidentified...flying...objects)

Brian says ... on Friday, Jul 10 at 1:47 PM

I live in ND and I seen this too. It appeared and moved at a high rate of speed, then appeared to hover and dimmed. It moved to the south from my perspective and reappeared for approximately three minutes.

Anonymous says ... on Thursday, Jul 9 at 9:57 PM

I just saw 6 of them moving south over Puyallup. No noise, just 6 orange lights

Casey says ... on Thursday, Jul 9 at 9:06 PM

I noticed a bit of a pattern when i looked at the locations compared to the locations of airfields and every place mentioned is about 30 miles, if not less, from an airport. The light could be an emergency rescue flare from plane a survival kit

Jennifer says ... on Thursday, Jul 9 at 9:14 AM

We saw one In Great Bend, PA. It appeared to be a ball of fire that traveled south, then the flame seemed to go out and it was just an orange dot that finally vanished. I'll admit, I'm curious.

Aaron says ... on Wednesday, Jul 8 at 11:54 AM

I'm glad i am not the only one who saw this. I live in Sumner and saw just one of these. It was moving to the South.

yeah i witnessed it in southern marysville / northern everett. my co worker also saw it at lake city i think but he saw 7 of them. then 3 of them zoomed past him and his girlfriend. his girlfriend took a picture but it ended up as a white figure

ethan says ... on Tuesday, Jul 7 at 1:37 PM

this will burn for about 30 minutes and if wind speeds pick up and send it flying through the air at fair amount speed. When taken out of the package it has a height of about 4 feet and can easily be seen in the night sky.

ethan says ... on Tuesday, Jul 7 at 1:33 PM

This year a new "firework" was introduced where you light a fuel patch in a paper balloon, once enough heat is let into the balloon you let it go and it soars into the sky. The balloon is white and with the flame will give offf an orange glow.

Rusty says ... on Tuesday, Jul 7 at 12:21 PM

Our group of fireworks watchers in Snohomish, WA saw what looked like small hot air balloons floating at about 1000 ft. from northwest to southeast. They were there for about 5 minutes until the lights went out. I don't think they were UFOs.

stuart says ... on Tuesday, Jul 7 at 6:48 AM

We were in Stanwood and notticed them a few thousand ft up or so. moving from north to south. 2 of them like wingmen but then one burned out and the other kept moving! curious

jan says ... on Monday, Jul 6 at 10:49 PM

Any chance we have setting sun reflecting off aircraft?

Jerry says ... on Monday, Jul 6 at 8:43 PM

My family and neighbors saw an orange orb moving at a fast speed from the north moving south at around 10 pm. I live in East Hampton, CT. This was not a ballon or sky lantern. No noise or flashing lights.

american pride pyrotechnics says ... on Monday, Jul 6 at 8:14 PM

what you saw was more than likely a type of firework called sky lanterns. we use these alot and frequently hear reports of people seeing u.fo. 's lol you might go to www.bigfireworks.com and look at a video of them. , thunderoverleota@gmail.com

A single orange, glowing ball, with no sound about 10:30 p.m. July 4 SW of Austin, TX. Was with 3 other adults and 2 kids who all witnessed the same. Floated slowly for about 30 seconds, but was difficult to ascertain the height, then disappeared.

My wife, son and I saw one Friday night in Frankenmuth, Mi. just prior to a fireworks show. And the very next night my son and I saw a total of five (four were grouped together) in Macomb, Mi. Seemed to be a light or flame floating with wind.

Chris says ... on Monday, Jul 6 at 10:37 AM

There were reports of 3 orange balls over Menominee, MI/Marinette, WI July 4th before fireworks Moving south to north. No sound. 2 appeared first before fireworks and 1 after. Disappeared about 30 degrees over horizon. Any other reports?

mark says ... on Monday, Jul 6 at 9:42 AM

Sounds almost like parachute flares the army and other branches use for training. Maybe a few people from Ft Lewis swiped some of them for the 4th. Major fire hazzard if they hit the ground still burning.

Leslie says ... on Monday, Jul 6 at 9:34 AM

We were on Big Lake in Mount Vernon and saw 3-6 "orange colored balls" floating up from the mountain. They lasted about 5 minutes. It was very mystical.

Bartholomew Cubbins says ... on Sunday, Jul 5 at 9:42 PM
