Trouble At Low Tide

Oak Harbor, WA has been experiencing some extremely low tides. A few weekend boaters found this out first hand. It looks as though they woke up to find themselves stuck in the mud.

Driving past the marina at 10am we spotted 3 boats either listing or completely mired in the low tide mud flats. We discovered one of the boats, Dorie out of Oak Harbor, WA, was listing heavily to one side with at least 10 people on board. We counted 3 adults on deck and at least 6 people in their dingy. The people in the dingy looked to be children or at least young adults. From a distance everyone seemed to be in good spirits despite the rain, wind and cold of the morning. US Navy emergency personel were already preparing at the Marina for a rescue and US Coast Guard arrived shortly to monitor the situation from the air.

At one point the rescue boat became mired as well, but eventually they freed themselves and towed the dingy to the marina.

What an interesting way to start your week.

But this cannot be! The ice caps are melting, sea levels are rising! They're rising! We're all going to drown!
