8/14 at 6:00 am I awoke to the smell of burnt electrical and smoke from my refrigerator. I contated Sears without any help or resolution. They said it was made by Whirlpool. This morning I contacted Whirlpool, they said it was Sears problem. I've looked on the Web and found that this is a common issue and Maytag issued a recall, discription is identical as post on CPSC Website. I would like your help, my contact number is 206-979-6336.

Good point pacman, but I don't think anyone would want to bother someone who doesnt have a working fridge.

It's a really bad idea to post your phone number in a web posting. If the CPSC has info on a recall and the manufacturer is not responding, contact the CPSC.

It sure doesnt look like it caught fire to me. I think this is just an old unit that started to smoke. Not newsworthy.

Yes it is news worthy. I'm guessing not every one who bought this fridge got a notice in the mail that it could catch fire.

Was the consumer aware of the Maytag recall? We have a Maytag purchased in the past 4 years, we got a letter and they set up an appointment with a repairman to fix the recall problem...You can get their number on the website and give refrig serial #

So did this actually catch fire or did it just smoke? Also how old was the refrigerator?
