We were taking pictures as we sailed 4 to 5.5 knots in a light chop. The whales swam faster as they over took and passed us.
These killer whales are 26 to 30 feet and the males have a 6 foot dorsal fin. I believe there were some smaller young ones in this pod. Two of the big ones swim under the boat. We sailed with the pod for about an hour before we headed back to the marina. They were very active and covered most of outer Elliott Bay. Spy hopping, slapping their tails and one jumped clear out of the water. The Winslow ferry slowly cruised by with all hands on the forward deck to check out this rare sight.
