We were taking photos as we sailing 4 to 5.5 knots in a light chop. The whales swam faster to over take and passed us.
These killer whales are 26 to 30 feet and the male has a 6 foot dorsal fin. I believe there were some smaller young ones in this pod. Two of the big ones swim under the boat. We stayed with the pod for about an hour before we headed back to the marina. They were very active and covered most of Elliott Bay. Spy hopping, slapping their tails and one jumped clear out of the water. The Winslow ferry slowly came by with all hands on the forward deck for this rare sight.
