At the Redondo Beach area of Des Moines is a beautiful mermaid statue created by world reknown chainsaw carving artist Bob King . It stands about 12 feet , with the mermaid looking like it just jumped off the water with a seahorse curled in her forefinger and she is perched on top of rocks . In the bottom are very detailed carving of a crab , a star fish , a sea turtle and a sea lion . It has created a very slow traffic while he was creating the sculpture . A one of a kind beauty made by a " local ". Award winning chainsaw artist Bob King is a member of the Echo chainsaw carving team and is the number 1 chainsaw artist in the world . He currently shares 1st place win in the english open and is the current champion of the Scottish open. Bob is from Edgewood and proudly represents the state in major chainsaw competitions internationally.
