Whether it be warm days or cold days we can catch fish in out pond in Chehalis. The pictures are the proof. Even if the fish are little. If it doesnt flood in the winter we can keep our fish growing. But when it floods the waters come over our pond as much as 10 ft as in 07. Our fish get as big as 24" and then we get flooded and out to the river they go. Well I guess thats life. We just have to buy more fish. There is no way we can keep them in, because the water gets too high if it floods. I have found small fish and some of my goldfish in pools of water in the large field after the water receeded. Life is a story its self..

After 3 weeks of lackluster fishing on the Nisqually river in September of 08, My fishing partner Robin and I, were determined to catch some nice fish. Having been pretty much skunked for the previous several trips, I was really starting to wonder if I had lost my touch. This particular morning started off pretty much the same.... with fish jumping around us and not being able to get a good hook-up. finally, after a couple of hours, Robin yelled," FISH ON ". I turned to look, half expecting to see him hooked up on a snag. To my surprise, he was fighting a really nice 10lb bright chrome king. After successfully landing the fish, I was feeling happy for Robin, but a bit dejected as I don't like to be outfished. A few minutes later, my bobber disappeared under the water, and I proceeded to set the hook in a really nice 12lb male king salmon, which we promptly landed. Shortly thereafter, I hooked and landed a 15 pounder. I was joking with Robin that they kept getting bigger, and "wait and see how big the next one will be". Finally, just after noon, my bobber once againg disappeared, and when I set the hook, one of the biggest salmon I have ever hooked doubled over my rod and came immediately to the surface to display its majestic beauty with a tail slap and a jump. I realized rather quickly that, with the gear that I was using, I was a little out gunned. Every time i would gain 10 or 15 yards of line back, the fish would strip out 30 yards. Finally, after 45 minutes and several close calls with the Indian gillnetters in their jet sleds who seemed determined to run over my line when the drove past, Robin did a fantastic job netting the fish with a net that was entirely too small for the fish that was being landed. At this time, we had our limit of adult Kings, and we were both pretty tired, so we loaded up the car, cleaned up our fishing area, and headed for home with salmon in the trunk and smiles on our face. All in All, it was a pretty bad run of fish we had this year, but that one day definitely made it all worth the effort.

This is the first time we have seen salmon in the little creek behind our house in Chehalis. This little creek ws nearly over the banks during this last flood warning. As we watched it, it proceeded to go down, as it did the salmon appeared. There are many of them, sometimes 5-7 at a time in one small area. They are all at least 18" long, 15 to 20 pounds and a very dark red. This creek runs east to west from Mary McCranks property under Jackson Hwy to our property, Papajon's Mini Storage. Very interesting to watch for the past several days

I stopped by my old fishing hole up river a bit from Snohomish today at around noon to see how far the water had come up after last nights heavy rain. I was surprised to see that the river had come up a good 12 ft or more. This picture was taken at low tide today. High tide is sometime shortly after 6pm I would have to think the water is going to back up over night and make a big mess for folks close to the Snohomish river.
